Location
Outward Bound® Malaysia, Lumut, the oldest centre outside the United Kingdom is located in the northern half of the Straits of Malacca on the coast facing the tourist island of Pangkor. Six kilometers to the west is the island of Pangkor Laut, one of the 10 top beach resorts in the world.
Geography
The geography of the centre is dominated by rising high ground to 30 metres from around a football ground sized lowland backshore resembling an amphitheatre. Accommodation for participants are in dormitories set around the slopes, from where one obtains a fabulous view of the sea below and island of Pangkor across
Staff
The small staff of 50 include instructors, logistics support, clerical and executive staff, who plan and manage the centre’s infrastructure and implement courses for the public and private sectors.

Equipment
The centre owns, maintains and operates all equipment and vehicles used for courses. These include 50 odd kayaks, 2 speedboats, 4 whalers, 3 50ft safety / logistic boats and building and ground maintenance equipment.
Students
Since its inception in 1955, approximately 100,000 participants have undergone Outward Bound courses of various kinds. Since the mid 1990’s majority of participants have been from the corporate sector.

Special Children
This centre has also continuously provided special arrangements to enable children from homes for the destitute and orphans to attend tailor made courses. For example, institutions like the Montfort Boys Town send as many children as they can afford on an annual basis to attend regular courses at special discounts. Day outings are provided without charge to orphanages in the District.

My sons age 13 and 15. What course should they attend ? My sons cannot swim would it be a problem and how safe is it ?
Thank you, Lean Chin, for contacting us. We suggest that the 13yr old goes for the CAC , whilst the 15yr old can go for the YAC. Kindly refer to the heading of “course schedule” on our website & you can see the details for booking & payment.
Not to worry about swimming because it is compulsory for them to wear the supplied Personal Floating Device “PFDs” or commonly known as life jackets, plus also everybody will be involved in the water confidence exercise before they actually do any water activity.
You will be surprised how fast your children gains the confidence to be in the water due to group encouragement. Our Instructors will be in the water with them all the time.
Look forward to see your kids this November or December!
